2021 RECAP

Family and friends near and far,

2020/21 flew past as we grappled with COVID 19, we are still sort of reeling under its effects. Alaskans have been more fortunate, especially those living in the backwoods of the interior - in that we have not suffered as much as more populated areas in the nation and the world.

I had to cancel my yearly Nordic Walking trip to the UK, Wales, and Spain as many did. I got some of the cost back but not all...who knows when I'll get back over the pond. Still much uncertainty.

2021:The main event for us as a family is that we lost our beloved Grams Floan, our kid's grandmother, second mom to all our kids. Fond memories of going to her cabin in the woods to hang out, play with her toys, watch cowboy movies or just spend some quiet time with her, eating treats - away from hustle and bustle of the outside world. That’s what grandmothers are for after all - I remember doing much the same with both my Italian and welsh grannies way back when growing up in Argentina. My granny's houses (at opposite ends of the city) were safe havens where one could unwind, eat treats and generally get some old-fashioned coddling.

Grams Floan served in the United States Air Force as a telecommunications aid. Not sure if it was top secret coding or what - she never talked about it in detail. She retired and raised five children pretty much single-handed since her husband was a military career man, and she was left alone to raise 3 boys and twin girls. She was a tough cookie! She moved to Alaska with her girls and grown son (my husband Pat) and lived up here in the unforgiving dark and cold for over 40 years. I’m so grateful that she stuck it out and met some of our children. Thanks, Grams for being a sweet grams and teacher!

Our twin grandies are growing up so fast. Nora and Esther 11 years old, lovely young ladies, and doing well in school and life

2021 in pictures. Northern Lights have been quite active this winter

Rob and I started attending the new local gym in town. Lots of good fun!
Annie was able to pay us a visit after two years. Such a good family time with her during Christmas and New Yearr.
