All, so they decided that one had to leave

They weren't able to choose that person,
Until the woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.



As soon as she finished her speech,
All the men started clapping ......!!!

CLEANER AIR

Shew! The air is much cleaner today!!!! And, we got a little bit of much needed rain. Everything feels and looks better. (I did see some yellow leaves this morning L )

Tom and Jeni were stuck in the Seattle airport for over 12 hours waiting to be allowed to fly into Anchorage. Anchorage wasn’t accepting planes that were going on to Fbks for awhile because they couldn’t get the people to Fbks due to the smoke. Anchorage was too full of planes and people. Finally, things started moving along – Tom and Jeni got home about 24 hours after their original expected arrival.

Jo is due to come home from seeing her sister, Cera. Hope she doesn’t have any problems.

Chris has been having car trouble. If anyone sees a tall, lanky guy hitchhiking between our place and Delta, look closer, it could be Chris. He may need a lift. So far, he has been fortunate to find rides. Hopefully, he’ll get this all fixed while it is summer.

Bonnie Mason is cutting hair while here. She has several lists and piles of customers.

Bill Casey’s sister, Laura, is here for a week. She was able to combine a business trip with a stop to see Bill and family.

Some of the pics are stuff this past week. The silly mama moose came right into our backyard by the creek, she is emmaciated since she is nursing a baby which is kinda hidden in the brush. They were not afraid which means they are nearly starving poor thangs!

Bethy Chartier is having a blast with the kids, wagon, horses,etc....she has boundless energy...

We did peas until 10 pm. t'other nite...good harvest...

I better get moving – I’m supposed to be getting ready for a Fbks trip. I’ll talk to you more later

SMOKE & RAIN.....

Hi all,

We’ve had hot, dry weather for days and days now. Last night around supper time, thick smoke rolled in, but at the same time, it started to sprinkle. This morning, the smoke is still very bad (I hear that Fbks is even worse), but we’ve gotten a wee bit of rain. I took at picture at 7 am that shows that it still looks like night time – one can barely see the stallion who lives right next to my house and there is no hint of the mtns beyond.

GOOGLE EARTH HAS SOME GOOD IMAGES OF ALASKA WILDFIRES RIGHT NOW...everything seems to be red!! Hope it does not come any closer to us....

Other than that, all is well. J Have a nice day.

SOME OF MY BIL'S BLACKSMITHING STUFF

Most of u know that my BIL Ben Mehaffey does some very nice ornamental blacksmthing. He also teaches a course at the HS...ferriering and general blacksmithing stuff, both Pat and May took it and made all sorts of nice things for the house. This is just a sampling. He has quite a following in town and also puts on exhibits yearly.

SUMMER NOOS.....

Hello. Last week was unreal with how hot it was all week and even at night. I meant to call Bro Andy and get some stats for you, but I forgot and now it’s too late. Yesterday was a grey day and a very cold night. I think I heard that Bro Andy’s low temp recording was for 29°. I know it stayed cold for some time because we actually had a thin layer of ice on the water that I left in my wheelbarrow. It looks like the squash got hit; I don’t know what else was damaged. Other things, like the potatoes got a little bit of frost, but they’ll probably recover.

We had work nights most of last week – thinning carrots, picking peas, picking greens, and ?.

Sarah Horender and her daughters went home last week. Canda Steiner has been here and will be going over to New Hope on Monday or Tuesday. Some guy named David from Orlando, Florida, is here visiting for a month. Bill Casey’s sister, Laura, is arriving today to visit for about a week.

Bro John Jeffreys was here today and will be driving home to Haines tomorrow. He preached this morning on having the right ground for seed to be planted.

Aaron and Brooke Seeger with their girls along with Glen & Lewis Wilkerson and Hannah Gomez were out for the day to visit Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Jim, and the Trotters. Hannah Gomez and Lewis Wilkerson have been “walking out their year” since before the summer some time.

Micah VanderHart is having some intense physical therapy for a couple of weeks. The therapist put his right hand and arm in a cast to encourage Micah to use his left hand more. It’s a little stressful (mostly for Ann), I think.

Our family went to the Deltana Fair which was OK but some things were not featured that had been other times. There were some nicer rides and Rob enjoyed himself. Pat Sr. and May took the trophy for the Jack n'Jill sawing...but the competition was tough this year. May almost won the ax throw but some other gal took it in the end. The mixed groups were unreall they were so good. Some younger folks have been practicing, doing the sawing through the 12in. beam with a cross cut saw in about 16 sec. unbelievable! Poor Pat got winded in the solo crosscut and realized he was not up to it anymore, but at least he tried! MAY WON THAT ONE!...but then she is 19 years old!

At the same time all this was going on, Robin was watching the cowboy shootouts. An outfit from nearby Salcha brings their ponies and quarter horses, and they do a sort of barrell racing thing on an arena while shooting blanks at balloon targets. I will post some pics and clips soon. Rob loves this! He got asked to hlep putting up the targets and he did quite well...

Smoke is terrible and gets to ones eyes and throat but we do not complain since it is sunny and hot. We do need rain though. Produce is coming in by the b arrel full and we are kept busy processing it all and putting it into the frezzer.

Amazing that August is already here. Groan...that means that winter is closer...

Pat Jr. is up in the Brookes range hunting with rich out of state hunters and being a rustler for the outfit he works for. Has a new ineterest, a girl from Devon, England who is completing her college degree in the UK at Exeter Univ. Seems like a nice girl, we met her briefly when he came back home for a night to get some fresh clothing and take a string of fresh horses back to camp. They were not able to stay very long.

HI FROM THE LAND....

Hi – I realize it’s been awhile since I’ve written. On Monday, I ran Tom and Jeni and family to the airport since they are going to the Ava youth camp (they are doing some other traveling while down there too). So, I turned around that night and came home in the wee hours of the morning. It took me a day or so to recover from that.

We did get all our square bales and put up in good time. Tony says we put up 4,727 square bales and 167 round bales. I know we’ve put up way more round bales than that number because that was a number he gave me early last week, and I’ve seen them hauling tons more round bales this week.

The weather has been beautiful this week – mostly sunshine all the time. We’ve had some strong winds for the past couple of days. There have been strong wind warnings on my weather bug for days so I don’t think we’re the only ones getting this wind – Fbks & Delta too, maybe Tok? Our nights are beginning to take on a cool tinge, letting us know that fall time is around the corner. L

Bill Casey, who is in charge of our garden, says we are done weeding in the garden. Now it is time to start harvesting. We’ve started, just this week, to eat fresh squash and cabbage. We’ve been eating lettuce for a long time. Of course, we’ve been eating our green house goods for a very long time, and they are so good that we rarely share (we consume them all).

I heard that we have finally named that dark colt – her name is Palin after, you’ve guessed it – Sarah Palin, our soon ex-governor, if not already ex-governor.

Brad with a crew of misfits (Rich, Seth, Joey, and Tommy) has been putting up a house on the Clearwater River. I’m calling them misfits because none of them except maybe Tommy are Brad’s regular crew, but, hey, they’re getting the work done.

Oh… how could I forget – Bonnie and Jim Mason are here visiting for a couple of weeks. Another oh… - Canda Stiner is arriving today and will be here for a few weeks.

Sarah Grado’s (can’t remember her married name) two children are here visiting Jo and her family. Last night, Serena with her two boys came out. It was quite cute to see all those cousins playing together.

Tommy’s dad and nephew went home this week.

Merlin went to Skagway this week to meet up with his sisters.
