JEPSEN WEDDING, ETC. END OF JUNE AT DRY CREEK!

We’ve had an eventful couple of weeks.  I don’t even know where to begin.

Kevin and Kelly were married a week ago today.  The wedding was beautiful.  It rained much of the week, and it continued to rain throughout the wedding, but then it cleared up for the dancing and bouquet throwing.  The wedding was held in Jarred and Jennifer’s back yard; fortunately we had a tent.  The reception was at the tabernacle.  The kids have gone to Mexico for their honeymoon.  They will live in what used to be Riches’ home, then Jason T’s home.

Guests for the wedding week was all of Kevin’s mom’s immediate family - Marge, Ron, Jackie, Jackie’s two girls, and Jason.  Kim’s sister, Virginia, is up visiting for a couple of months.  Joel and Dena and their son, Jameson, were here too as was Sarah Horender.  Those are the ones who came from their families; we had lots of visitors for the actual wedding - too many to name.  :)  Seth and Ammy, in my opinion, were a big help to all the events! They stayed in the newly vacated cabin that was Wenda's. Beth and Pat came with the girls.

Rather an adventure for the Buongiornes, after our week at Providence, Anchorage for medicals for Pat and Rob, we stopped for a couple of nights with the kids in Palmer, about 2 hours away from Anchorage. The girls celebrated their 3rd. birthday! Many families with multiples were invited and their new home was chock full of toddler and 3 yr olds running around and having a good time. Pat St. and Patl were able to spend some quality time together which is good since they do not see each other too much. PatL has left firefighting for good and has a job which entails flying around in chopper retrieving things/humans/etc. from the ground even in choppy seas, so not sure if it's any safer! At least his hours allow him more family time. He work close to Dry Creek at the military base so we will probably see more of him.

We drove the 6 hours back to Dry Creek,  with Beth and the girls and then attended the wedding dinner that preceded the wedding for Kev & Kel. The girls loved both events!

We had an ice cream party last night  for the Fouses who leave on Sunday for Arizona.  They are relocating to the Phoenix area.  Much wailing and gnashing of teeth over this departure - on both sides (us and them).

Today is the Celebration of Life for George Harris.  Garth Milliron and Prinz Samuels went from here to represent us.  I wish more of us could’ve gone.  A coincidence - twenty-one years ago, Bro George was here on the 19th to marry Jo and Brad.  That is the day he went to be the Lord.

Tommy, Benj, May, and Kerri went  to the fish wheel in Copper Center; they left right after the wedding and came home late at night with 308 reds and 12 king salmon which equaled over 700 pounds of packaged salmon.  Nice catch!  Bill Casey took home one of the king salmon’s skin, back bone, and head, and he grilled it. It was sooooo yummy.  I came home and rolled directly into bed; I was so full.

We had a new baby horse born during the wedding week.  He has a perfect diamond on his forehead.  I will have to get a picture of him.

Also here are some updates on our furry grizzly cub that was rescued from our backyard by the local Fish & Game. She is now called Bella and will live happily ever after at the Montana Grizzly Preserve. Here are some links to photos of her, she is cute and has put on some badly needed pounds since her ordeal.

Our Ani has left for a month with family in Argentina together with her aunt Karenza Hanson. She will meet most of our relatives that are still over there. Should be quite an adventure for her. Hope she brushes up on her spanish. :)

JUNE 2014 EVENTS CONTINUED...

Goodmorning!  

We’ve been waking up to 37* or 39* almost every morning except the one night that we had wind, then it was 47*.  During the day, temperatures have reached 70* nearly every day.  We did get a smidge of rain, not even equaling half of an inch.  We need more for our crops.  Besides, Tony fertilized all the lawns and won’t let us mow till the fertilizer is melted in.  The lawns are beginning to look raggedy, and it is bugging us lawn mowers to no end.

Last Saturday we had a small scare.  Plumes of smoke were seen coming from the dump on a windy day, no less.  People were called, men hauled out hoses and water tanks, and Forestry showed up to check on us.  All was put out in a couple of hours.  I guess the ashes were still hot from the burn barrels.  It was a little scary for about 1/2 an hour since it was a very windy day.

Last Sunday, we had a going away dinner for Wenda, more lovingly known as Dee Dee or Deed.  The dinner HARDLY begins to convey our love for Deed and our depth of missing her presence.  I know I have a hole in my heart that will take a while to fill. She has been with us for at least 19 years, saw me through my parenting trials and became a true,  and unbiased soundboard to my many panic attacks, as well as being everybody's long distance chauffeur...boldly going on the highway where I was too chicken too, now I'll have to brave it!

Thomas and his kids planted the potatoes over the last couple of evenings of last week.  May has been planting seeds every time she has a spare chance.  On Wednesday night, we all worked together to put in the transplants.  Some of the ex photography students helped take pictures. They got some really nice pictures so I’d like to use some.

A little bear cub has been running around the farm.  He’s so tiny and cute, but he has pretty long claws.  He walked so close to me that I could’ve petted him, but I didn’t reach out my hand.  It appears that its mom is dead or something because we’ve seen hide nor hair of her. 

UPDATE ON THE CUB:

It is a 4 month female grizzly cub that has been orphaned. After venturing around people's backyards it remained in the creek bed under Buongiorne and Cox's area. Finally Fish & Game was called, the little critter was tranqued and checked thoroughly and put into a large animal carrier. Last we heard it was recuperating nicely from its ordeals and when it gets bigger it will be shipped off to a zoo in Montana who is asking for grizzly donations.

We’e all gearing up for Kevin and Kelly’s wedding.  I wanted to send out a pic of their announcement, but I haven’t done it yet.  Their wedding is on June 21st at two pm.  Kim’s sister, Virginia, is here for a couple of months.  Looks like she will fit in well.

MAY 2014 MOOSINGS

Gosh I don’t even know the last time I wrote!  A lot has gone on.  

Concerning our weather, we’ve had beautiful weather which all of us enjoy, but we are starting to need rain for our crops.  We can irrigate our garden, but we aren’t set up to irrigate the fields.  We have had some fairly low temperatures at night, which is a concern when we’ve been thinking of planting our transplants.  I heard we want to put them in next Wednesday.  We shall see. Maymay has been diligently working out in the garden until late at night, now that we have an extended daylight season...she is such a good, hard working girl...God bless her sweet heart! 

Comunity life in general has been quite eventful last couple of weeks due to the graduation and weddings.  Now, we’re gearing up for Kevin and Kelly’s wedding on June 21^st.  Since both weddings include some of the same relatives (2 Jepsen boys who are cousins) makes for quite a crowd which will be added to.

Bradie Cox and Jonnie Squires graduated.  They have been in class together since they were born.  The graduation was very nice.  The guests for the graduation were all Grado relatives and Cami Zoebell.

We also had a Seth/Amaris wedding dinner at The Land, and Whitestone sent a whole bunch of folks to it as well, much of it included the wedding party and her folks. It was  very nice and they were presented with some lovely quilts. One by our farm (Jenny Nerbonne and ladies) and one made by Emily Nerbonne, grandmother of the groom.

The wedding was hectic because we had a lot of traveling back and forth to Whitestone to do.  The boat trip is always an adventure for me, since I don’t do it very often. Rob enjoyed it and so did the younger kids. The day was lovely to be on the river.

But despite all the back and forth, everything went very well, when one considers there were about 400 folks millling about.  Whitestone was gracious to us.  Seth and Amaris  are married, and I guess they are honeymooning in Jamaica.   The guests for the wedding are too many to number, we had Jepsen/Nerbonne/Ramirez parents, relatives and immediate family from near and far.  All of Amaris’ immediate family was here (5) plus some aunts and friends and cousins.  All of Amaris’ family stayed at Whitestone. Some of my Spanish students enjoyed practicing their skills with the Mexican folk.

Another event that has just passed is the DRY CREEK/WHITESTONE BARN DANCE this was held earlier in May. A total success. It always amazes me how many young people live in WF, they seem to increase in numbers each time they come over. For some reason or other we have had more encounters with them and this is a good thing since our numbers are dwindling for various reasons. They was easily about 100 people I should think down at the Hangar building. The kids did a great job at decorating it to look like a barn, hay bales, saddles, lights, cowboy hats, boots, etc. The line dancing or whatever it’s called is a lot of fun and easy to pick up. Bill and Kathy Casey have gone to the states for a visit to Kathy’s folks. 

Katie Crossin is visiting with her family down south.

Rachel and Mike Sowers from Evergreen Farms are here visiting. Nice to see my friend Gwen Meyers kids all grown up...good memories of when she and I sang at the Madrid convention oh...so many years ago!

Hope Margraf is back and is staying with Garth and Kim Milliron.  Chris and Hope started their year this week. 

Craig Milliron is up working with his brother for the summer.  Craig will be marrying Sarah Horender (Jennifer’s sister) in New York in the middle of August (maybe the 16^th). 

Allyson and Jon have taken their family on a road trip and to attend Austin’s graduation.  Michael told me that he’d be happy going anywhere except Texas.  I’m not exactly sure of his reasons, but he must’ve gotten tired of Texas from that one summer they stayed down there while Jon was finishing up his schooling. 

Tony and his boys and the young boys are busily planting the fields.  We’ve really enjoyed Joe Brandes being here.  He came up for school and will return for his senior year.  He’s going home soon.  But, in the meantime, we’re squeezing all the work out of him that we can.  He happily does it. Rob has been included the ATR planting, he comes home looking like a chimney sweep, but feeling pretty grown up and proud of himself. Thanks to Chris and the rest of the guys over there for taking him.

I think most of you know, but just in case you don’t…. Bro Ernest Watkins passed away suddenly the week before the wedding.  His memorial was held on the wedding day.  If you’d like to contact his wife, you can write to her at:

Our Ani is still in Jefferson TX with her aunt (my siser Karenza Hanson) and Tim and Mary Tesi. She is enjoying her new life and facing new challenges which are all part of growing up. She and her aunt are planning an Argentine trip in July. It will be a great opportunity for Ani to meet our extended Anglo/Italo?Anglo side of the famoly, many cousins, uncles, aunts, etc. Then when she returns she will stop in Dallas and I will meet her there for a  week end, on my way to Alaska - back from a special needs summer camp in that area, where I am taking Rob.

MARCH-APRIL MOOSINGS

 

Yesterday we had -18°!!!!  The greenhouse was not happy with that temperature.  Even with the propane heater running all night, the greenhouse temp dropped to freezing.  We lost some of our little plants, but it looks like most of them will recover.  This morning, we have a temperature reading of -9°.

Last Sunday, a gifted group of musicians and singers came out to put on a concert.  It was so well done! with so many cool instruments being played.  May Buongiorne was invited to sing a short solo and take part in the whole choral ensemble, I was one very proud mum!  :)

Jeremy Austin and Becky Riche took Sis Virginia Buerge’s songs from the Psalms and set them to music.   I hope Jeremy recorded the music.  Pictures are here:

Gri Buongiorne  made a video of the whole event. Ask her if you want a copy of the Whitestone musical "Song of Degrees" presented at The Land. From what I hear nobody else has made a video recording so this would be your chance. I know she is working on slide shows for various events, so put in your petition EARLY, before she gets bogged down with other stuff. :)

Some of us have been going up 3030 (latitude reading) a mountain/hill behind our backyard - and doggedly climbing up the trail which is melting. A good work out and an even better panoramic view of this area - depending on how high one climbs of course! Pictures of these climbing events are here

Thomas, Brad, and John Clark have gone to Healy for a few weeks to do some big job down there.  They might come home on some weekends.  We shall see. 

Jarred, Seth F., and Garth went somewhere to stack a house.  They will be gone for 7 – 10 days. 

Ben went to Fairbanks to attend another homeshow – a women’s show (I don’t know the name).  He did about the same as he did at the last show.  He did receive a bunch of wrought iron orders so that is good. 

Our school open house is next Wednesday, the 16^th.  We had a ladies’ meeting this past Wednesday to discuss changes in summer schedule and how to fill in all the slots. It takes about 20 ladies to cover it all, not sure we have that able bodies females any more...at least not YOUNG ones...haha

SO MUCH FOR FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

Even though the day temperature has been reaching high into the twenty’s, each night our temperatures have been still dropping to -12 and -18.  I know, we are in the March madness; it’s all to be expected.  But, I wanted to complain anyway.

I heard that Cody and Chris Williams went part way up to Fish Lake on their machines to break trail for supplies to be hauled into the Fish Lake hunting camps.  I don’t know how far they made it and how trail cutting went.  I imagine there is not much snow up there because there isn’t much snow down here.  Our weird warm spells and winds this winter, keep melting and blowing away all our snow cover.

Pat and my trails are all crusted over and not very usable. Still, I've been up the 3030 Hil/mountain... whatever you want to call it with some of my pals and got some good workouts in, without snowshoes, just with our cleats and trail boots. Rob joined me once and I think he enjoyed his trek up the hill.

Rob had his six month update on his thyroid and he is doing fine, PTL. We continue with his usual nutritional protocol and meds. 

My sister Alejandra Burgess made her move to Chile to take part in a Fellows position with the Universidad Austral Research branch. She is settled in a very quaint tourist sector in a place called Coyahique. She will be training teachers and students in ESL techniques. We have Skyped once so far and she is happy and enjoying her new phase in life.

Here is a link to the region she is staying at. Close to the University. Life in Chile is very different and rather more easy-going than what we are used to in the US and Europe. Her cabin is heated with a wood stove (yaaaiii) and is close to a beautiful lake close to the mountains. I am hoping that Ani will be able to visit her (crossing over the Andes Mountains from Argentina), when she visits Arg. with her aunt this summer. Chile is a neighboring country... the long skinny one on the SA map.

Bonnie and Jim have been traversing certain parts of the lower 48 for a couple of weeks.  They even stopped in to visit Andy and Sarah Jane for a few days.  Wendy and Katie have been caring for Bonnie’s mom, Irene.  Irene needs someone to be around most of the time since she’s on oxygen 24/7 and doesn’t get around on her own very much if at all.

Lizzie Jepsen was with us for a good while and now has gone back to UAF to continue with her Journalism courses. It was great to have her here!

Olivia and Jessy have both been taking classes online here at home.  I haven’t heard how they’re doing, but I’m sure they’re acing all their classes as well.  And, Allyson is doing excellently with her nursing studies. We see her periodically when she comes home on weekends, she is working very hard on her degree. We are all proud of her.

Here is a brief report from Sarah on Bro. Andy:

<Monday, Bro Andy has a chemo treatment (one Monday it’s a long treatment and the next Monday, it’s a short treatment).  He is to do this for six months.  On March 31, he will be three months into this regimen and he’ll be receiving a pet scan to see how things are progressing.  He has very minimal side effects at present.  So, June 23 is the ending date for this six month long treatment.  He walks nearly every day and is feeling well.  Bro Andy’s cancer is medically incurable but is treatable.  He is looking to God to be his healer since he knows God is bigger than the medical field.  Andy and Sarah Jane’s email address is:  asjtrotter@gmail.com  Mailing address is:

DRY CREEK CONVENTION REPORT 2014

And now a brief report on our yearly Dry Creek Convention 2014, thanks to Sarah Jepsen for the concise wrap-up.

Hello,

Convention weather was relatively mild - mostly above zero weather.  It was bearable for our guests.  :)  Since convention, we had a couple of days of gusty cool wind keeping the temperatures in the above zero teens.  Tonight, the temperature has dipped to -10* and will probably get a little colder before the night is over.  

The convention was excellent with a very few guests.  We were pleasantly surprised to see most of the Delta church group show up for our meetings.  We enjoyed them immensely.  

Thomas led worship for our first service on Wednesday morning.  As usual, the first service is a little rough, but that wasn’t Thomas’ fault - no one’s fault but our own.  Bill Grier opened the convention by greeting everyone before having Joy Beebe Keller give a testimony.  Joy has one boy and has since had five miscarriages.  She talked about how in the first month or six weeks of pregnancy, the woman’s body supplies everything for the baby, till the placenta takes over.  She talked about if one part of her body didn’t do it’s part, the pregnancy would abort.  Joy likened that to our spiritual walk.  Bro Buddy followed with a word on God’s love being conditional and about vertigo and not trusting our senses - Only God can change us.  Bro Joe closed the meeting with an exhortation on “Come let us reason together’ meaning that we should listen to God’s opinions.

Thomas led worship for the second meeting on Wednesday before Bro Bill Grier preached out of Isaiah 45:11 "Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.”  He said we should command God as well as praising and adoring Him.  Bro Buddy preached again concerning being taught by God and giving up everything, including our lives, in order to keep that which we cannot lose.  

Thursday morning began with Ben leading the praise.  Bro Ernest preached first on our calling - he reminded us that we are never fully aware of when our call comes nor of how much it will require of us.  He talked about a book, A Higher Calling

Larry Alexander.  He exhorted us to differentiate when to move in either the spirit of the Lamb or the spirit of the Lion.  David DiGloria preached next on the wisdom of God in ordering our steps through the laboratory of life in the mundane.  He urged us to “continually resort” in God’s habitation as talked about in Ps 71:3.  Bro Bill closed the service by reminding us to get up front in the war and to stay there.  We had some special moments of prayer for George Harris and Andy Trotter when the meeting ended. 

Ben and Bonnie led worship for Friday’s second meeting.  The John’s preached on this evening.  John Basalyga preached on the corporate call on our lives, reminding us to get engaged with what is happening around us.  John Jeffreys followed with a sermon on God inclining His ear; his text being 

Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  He mentioned that our reasonable service is one that we have reasoned out and made a conscious choice to do.  Bro Joe closed the meeting talking about us having more personal government over ourselves.  At the end of this meeting, we had a special moment of prayer for my brother in law, Greg Joss, who after a few days of having the flu started having seizures with a high temperature of 105*.  

Tom and Jeni led worship for the last meeting.  Bro Joe’s text was from the Song of Solomon.  His sermon was quite involved, but his theme was on keeping our own vineyards - we can have the knowledge of God in our head, but do we know Him? Our focus needs to be on God.  Bro Buddy closed the convention with a very short exhortation on “does God know you?”.  We can Know God, we can know ALL things, we can have all the gifts, and we can do mighty things, but does God know us?  He closed with “God is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him.”

Remember, my summarization of the meetings is MY ruminations of what I heard and gleaned from the meetings; my summarizations may not necessarily be the intended theme of the preacher.  (my disclaimer)

Debbi’s husband, Greg, was released today from ICU to a less icu-ish room. The doctors feel like Greg has meningitis caused by the herpes simplex virus.  Greg’s temperature is stabilized  his seizures quit after 12 hours, and his soft restraints have been taken off.  His heart beat is very erratic (35 - 150 bpm).  We are praying for a full recovery.

We had Saturday and Sunday off for family days - for rest and recuperation.  The ministry left early on Sunday morning, chauffeured by Garth Milliron.  If I understand correctly, the Haines convention should be over.  The Hoonah convention begins this coming Friday.

Hello!  Every day we have a few more minutes of precious daylight, and we are seeing a little bit more sunshine each day too!  It’s good for the spirit!  Despite the extra sunlight and daylight, we still have had some temperatures plunging into the -30’s but mostly staying in the -20’s.  Each day, it warms up to 0* or 6*, but drops below zero again at night.  We did receive around 2 and 1/2 inches of snow last week which covered up some of the debris from that wind storm we’d had in January.

Buongiorne news: Pat continues with his Macomb Piano work and keeps busy with that, taking as many jobs as he can. Some that take him away from the farm for a few days, trying to generate funds…aren’t we all!! Especially with the soon-to-be-implemented Obama Care which sounds like a nightmare, good to know that God is in control and He will take care of us as we put our trust in HIM! 

I continue to try and get my humble translation business up and running, but it is proving to be a very competitive market. I do enjoy pro Bono work with a large Gospel International outfit and audio recording for Livrivox which are quite enjoyable. Of course, most of my week is busy teaching Rob with the help of some excellent professionals from the AGSD and the REACH (Resources for teaching Alaska Children at Home) Academy who provide us with many resources for teaching a student like Rob. I am very thankful for these excellent providers. 

They also include Rob and myself in their spring field trip, which usually takes us to places in Alaska I would never be able to visit on my own. So far we have been in SE Alaska, Juneau, Haines, Homer, Yukon, visited salmon hatcheries and Alaska native heritage places, travelled on ferries and small boats. Last year we went to the Seward Marine Center, which is very well done and has a state-of-the-art research facility as well as an aquarium. Recently finished recording the popular "Martin Fierro" which is considered "the" Shakespeare of Argentina. Two fellow Argentinians were doing it with me so it was fun! I got to practice my very rusty "porteño" for those who are wondering what that is, it's the type of Argentinian Spanish spoken by folks who are from Buenos Aires. The other 2 readers were from the province of Entre Rios, where my mother Stella Leeson still resides.
