LATEST REPORT ON ROBIN BUONGIORNE

Hello All who are interested in Rob’s progress….

Following is a report on Robin…sorry it is not more frequent….

It was written to another mom with a DS 10 yo son but the info is the same so I am posting it onto my blog….I cld spend hours responding to people who write me...but literally don’t have the time I want...my mother lives in Argentina in a small coastal province, my sister lives in the big cityof Buenos Aires, one of my sisters lives in Gibraltar, one in the US, one brother in China and the other close to Bolivia in a province of Argentina called Salta....sooooo I don’t always keep up with everybody. I just set up a video conference on my sons’ MacBook and talked and saw my brother in Hong Kong so that was pretty exciting and a first for me!

It is currently in the 70’s a real heat wave for us after the -20 to -25 weather we had for almost 6 months of winter...we love the sun and soak it up as much as we can....vitamin D&A is seriously defficient here and we are all out right now like sea lions baking on the rocks. :)

Just for those who don't know, some personal background:

I was born in Argentina where I lived with my immigrant parents (Wales and Italy) for 21 years then I went off on a European adventure and never looked back...have only been back a couple of times in about 40 years...shameful...I know... friends and family is about all that one has left and one must nurture that...I am trying...

I have lived in the Last Frontier for about 20 years which is most of my married life. My husband is a piano doctor and I homeschool my youngest Robin. We have 2 graduates, son and daughter who have big plans of travelling and further education possibly the Airforce or some other service....and one 10th grader daughter who sticks close to home for now, but dreams of becoming a writer, artist, musician, painter, you name it...she is quite gifted...

We live in the bush with generator powered electricity, well water and horse drawn equipment for farming and such. Wood burning stoves for fuel and heat and our backyard is right up into the forests and mountains so wildlife is abundant. Grizzlies, moose, wolves and a host of smaller critters.

I have Robin equipped with a radio tracker just in case...he does tend to wander...does John wander? It is hard to tell him not to all the time, they get to be quite independent and I don’t want to squelch that...just keep him safe. He has recently learned how to handle a walkie talkie so we can keep in touch when he goes out exploring....

I spent about 7 years aggressively pursuing and ND protocol with an ND who still comes up to AK. But to tell you the truth I just felt Rob was getting behinder and behinder ‘cause I never seemd to have enough time in the day to do his academics and his ND...I know that the thought behind it is that a bucket with holes in it cannot hold water and ND takes care of that...but I just cld not do both. Most of the ND’s wld probably disagree with me but there you have it. I felt I gave it my best shot. I am not totally disappointed in Rob’s progress...his social skills are great and all this therapists (school district) are amazed at his vocab and general understanding and communication skills...his reading is progressing slowly beyond Dick & Jane and I am hoping that his Math will advance. I am also in communication with a mom whose 12 year old son is doing a beginners Math program put out by BJU which she has customized to his needs herself and markets the program through BJU...I am doing that as well... I feel that eventually it will click.

The graduating class of 2008 (of which my daughter was a part of) took me on the Columbia Glacier trip around the Alaskan fjiords... and that was a breathtakingly and never to be forgotten trip for me. The Columbia glacier is one of the largest live glaciers in the world and it was quite spectacular.... We saw, bald eagles nesting on the cliffs, puffins (those funny clown birds), mountain goats, sea lions, humpback whales spewing water flukes up in the air, arctic dolphins which cavorted and followed our cruise ship’s wake, and of course the “old man of the sea”, the lovable sea otters floating on their backs and carrying their young on their bellies.

Rob does not have any health issues. I have him on Nutrivene and Piracetam and Fruit Eeze. No issues at all and is hardly sick. We are not complaining, so many things are an issue with these kiddos. I have his thyroid, eyes and ears as well as teeth checked periodically. Typical minor things with the syndrome, constipation a biggie but handling it with the Fruit eeze...has had 5 ear tubes and is now doing without until further notice. Had a small heart murmur and hole which are no longer an issue.
